Frequently asked questions
1. Do I need basic insurance?
Yes. All persons residing in Switzerland are legally obliged to take out mandatory basic insurance under the Health Insurance Act (KVG) – regardless of age or health status.
2. Are the benefits the same for all health insurance providers?
Yes. The benefits of basic insurance are legally regulated and therefore identical for all health insurance providers – regardless of the chosen model, place of residence, or provider.
3. By when can I cancel my basic insurance?
The cancellation of your current basic insurance must be received by your health insurance provider by November 30 at the latest. The new insurance can then be taken out by December 31.
4. Do I have to take out accident insurance through my health insurance provider?
That depends on your professional situation:
- Yes, if you work less than 8 hours per week or are not subject to unemployment insurance (e.g. students, self-employed persons, pensioners).
- No, if you work more than 8 hours per week or are insured against unemployment – in this case, you are automatically covered by accident insurance through your employer (e.g. via Suva).
- During a military or civil defense deployment of 60 days or more, military insurance covers costs. During this time, basic insurance can be suspended.
5. Which deductible should I choose?
The deductible is the amount you must pay yourself per calendar year before the health insurance provider covers costs. You can choose an annual deductible between CHF 300 and CHF 2,500. Additionally, a co-payment of 10% applies, up to a maximum of CHF 700 per year.
The higher the deductible, the lower the monthly premium. Our specialists will be happy to help you determine the optimal deductible for your situation.
6. How can I save on health insurance premiums?
The following options help you reduce premiums:
- Choice of an alternative insurance model such as KPTwin.doc, KPTwin.win or KPTwin.smart.
- Exclusion of accident insurance if you are insured through your employer.
- Choosing a higher deductible.
- Prepayment of the annual premium (1% discount for annual payment).
7. Which model is right for me?
The right model depends on your individual needs:
- KPTwin.smart: If you like to do everything digitally and on the go.
- KPTwin.easy: If you want convenient phone consultations and medication delivered to your home.
- KPTwin.doc: If you value a trusted family doctor relationship.
