Frequently asked questions
1. Does a newborn have to meet certain requirements to be insured with KPT?
No. For basic insurance, KPT has no special admission requirements. The insurance can be taken out up to three months after birth. The insurance coverage – as well as the premiums – applies retroactively from the day the child was born.
2. What applies if a baby is not registered with KPT until after its birth?
In this case, a health check is necessary for all supplementary insurances. If the child is accepted, insurance coverage begins on the first day of the following month.
If a congenital defect exists, admission to supplementary insurance may be restricted or refused entirely.
Therefore, KPT recommends registration during pregnancy. This eliminates the need for a health check for most supplementary insurances – with the exception of semi-private and private hospital supplementary insurance and the admission guarantee insurance Sicuranta.
3. Who covers the costs in the event of a congenital defect?
Congenital defects are illnesses that are present at birth and become recognizable by the fifth year of life at the latest. In these cases, disability insurance (IV) covers the costs until the child turns 20.
Depending on the chosen supplementary insurance, KPT covers additional services such as osteopathic or craniosacral therapies. To eliminate the need for a health check, it is advisable to take out supplementary insurance before birth.
4. Who pays for complications during birth?
If a newborn requires special medical care in the hospital due to complications during birth, the costs are covered by KPT’s basic insurance or supplementary insurance, depending on the coverage.
It is therefore advisable to familiarize yourself with the desired scope of insurance early on. KPT offers personal consultations for this.
5. What benefits does KPT offer for families?
KPT offers insurance solutions specifically tailored to the needs of families. These include, for example, central management of all family members and financial support in difficult situations, such as through the so-called Teddy insurance for seriously ill children. From the third child onwards, families also benefit from a family discount: Hospital supplementary insurance for the general ward is free for the oldest or next youngest child, provided one parent has both basic and hospital supplementary insurance with KPT and all children have the same insurance coverage.
