Your situation from 18 – the most important things at a glance
From your 18th birthday, you are officially responsible for your health insurance. Premiums and invoices go directly to you – whether your parents continue to pay or not.
You can change your health insurance every year on January 1. Condition: You have no outstanding invoices (from your 18th birthday). Outstanding invoices from before are not your problem.
From 19 there is less of a discount: Until the age of 18 you had a discount of up to 77% with KPT; between 19 and 25 it is still 19–25% (depending on the canton). However, the premium only increases on January 1 following your birthday.
You can choose whether you want to continue with the family contract or want your own policy (insurance card). Advantage of individual policy: You get direct access to the KPT customer portal and the app. But: You are always responsible for your bills from the age of 18.

Hospital contribution
CHF 15 per day, except for those in education up to the age of 25, children, and maternity.

10% of the costs above the deductible, maximum CHF 700 per year.
