1. When does the car insurance pay out?

You are covered in these cases:

2. When does the car insurance not pay out?

There is no insurance cover if:

  • You intentionally damage your vehicle.
  • You participate in races, rallies or similar competitions.
  • You are traveling without a valid driving licence or with an unredeemed vehicle.

3. When can I change or cancel my car insurance?

A change or cancellation is possible in the following cases:

  • Upon expiry of the contract, subject to the period of notice.
  • When buying a new vehicle.
  • In the event of a change of owner.
  • In the event of a premium increase by the insurance company.
  • After a claim.

4. What do I have to consider when changing vehicles?

To register your new vehicle, you need:

  • Proof of insurance (can be ordered online).
  • For new cars: Test report (form 13.20 from the dealer).
  • For used cars: The previous vehicle registration document.

5. Do I need my own insurance for my second car?

Yes – if you want your own number plate for your second car, you also need separate insurance. Alternatively: You buy an interchangeable number plate and insure both vehicles under the same contract.

6. When do I need a Green Card?

In certain countries (e.g. Italy, Albania, Turkey) you must present an international insurance card (Green Card) upon entry. This confirms that your vehicle is covered by liability insurance.

7. What do I have to consider when moving?

When moving within the same canton:

  • Report the new address to the Road Traffic Office. This will be updated in the vehicle registration document.

When moving to another canton:

  • Register your car with the new Road Traffic Office within 14 days.
  • You need:
    • Your vehicle registration document.
    • A valid proof of insurance.
    • The form “Application for registration of a vehicle” (available online).
